Martinborough || Wellington
Situated just over an hour away from New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, Martinborough is Wellington's Wine Country main visitor attraction, with its wineries, cafes, accommodation and activities.
It is full of colonial charm and the wide, flat streets make for a picturesque journey with trees full of crimson leaves (during the Autumn) as you bike ride from winery to winery.
Vineyards tell the seasonal story: pruned back and sleeping in winter sunshine; lime green emerging growth in spring as new fruit develops; deeper green leaves and colourful bunches of grapes of summer; and the bright autumnal colours as grapes are harvested, and the cycle begins again.
We stayed at the lovely Peppers Parehua Country Estate. Set amongst the vineyards, with sweeping gardens and panoramic views. Each cottage and villa has been individually designed and loved. Winemakers Cottages, The Garden Cottage and the Lakeside Cottage have charming little touches and are placed to take advantage of the beautiful estate surroundings. Take in the scenic Martinborough views from the hot tub deck or in front of the cosy fireplace with a bottle of the region’s famous Pinot Noir. If you’re travelling in a group, the Woodland Villas have modern interiors and fully equipped gourmet kitchens, making them perfect for entertaining. Warm, cosy, romantic and charming, this is unique and picturesque accommodation at its best.
Martinborough is a place that charms its way into your heart and one that you will want to revisit again!
